UBC’s women’s and men’s volleyball teams are entering the regular season with something to prove. Here’s what you should expect from the Thunderbirds this year.
Seventh-seeded UBC women’s volleyball defeated top-seeded Trinity Western University (TWU) Spartans in five sets to win the program’s 13th national championship on Sunday night.
After dropping the first set, the Thunderbirds won three to knock out OUA champions Brock University Badgers 3–1 to secure a spot in Saturday’s U Sports semifinals.
UBC women’s volleyball lost against the Winnipeg Wesmen in four sets on February 10 and 11, but both games culminated in head coach Doug Reimer honouring the team’s six graduating seniors.
Since coming back from the winter break, the women’s volleyball team has maintained consistency and sits second in the Canada West standings with 28 points.
