The AMS election results on March 6 were notably missing one essential executive position — VP academic and university affairs (VPAUA) — due to the lack of candidates in the field this year.
On March 7, the Elections Committee announced the nomination period for a new special election to elect the VPAUA in a Facebook post.
“Nominations for VP Academic and University Affairs will be open from 9am Monday, March 9th until 11am Friday, March 13th. Forms will be available outside AMS offices on Monday,” reads the post.
In an emailed statement to The Ubyssey, AMS Chief Electoral Officer Ahsan Sahibzada said the campaigning period will begin on March 16 at 12:01 a.m. Voting will occur between March 23 at 9 a.m. and March 27 at 7 p.m.
“Elections Committee has asked Council to suspend the part in AMS Code which requires us to hold 2 debate forums during campaign week,” Sahibzada wrote.
He was referring to AMS Code Section IX(A), Article 2 (5)(a).
“If Council suspends that part of the Code, then we would be holding a debate forum + Meet & Greet during the week of voting,” Sahibzada wrote.
AMS Council will vote on the matter at the next AMS Council meeting on March 11.
