Mary Gan is the new AMS VP finance.
Gan, who is currently associate VP finance, won on a platform of implementing a health subsidy, creating a Canvas learning hub for AMS club treasurers, improving transparency of AMS finances and increasing awareness and usage of funds.
Gan ran uncontested in this year’s race.
She was grateful for the support she’s received from the UBC community, which made her feel “warm and appreciated.”
“Thank you to the UBC student body for being able to cast their vote and really put in their voice for how the AMS is going to operate next year,” said Gan.
Gan’s term will begin on May 1, 2021. During her term, Gan will face the AMS’s financial struggles due to COVID-19 as well as direct their $2 million surplus in health and dental fees toward mental health support.
She said that her first priority will be to provide more affordable mental health coverage to students through the AMS/GSS Health and Dental Plan.
“It’s going to take a lot of time to get this campaign goal delivered so it’s definitely the first thing I want to work on when I come into office.”
